Why a 10 Year Warranty?

Something that we are often asked is how we can offer a 10 year warranty on our LED High Bay Lights, when most other LED suppliers are only able to offer warranties of between 3 and 5 years.

It’s all to do with the design of the unit and its build quality. I remember my father, Reginald Young who was a Radar designer with Plessey, explaining about the quality of electrical components. In those days they used to come in two qualities 1st and 2nd class, this meant that the failure rate was either 1 in 1000 or 1 in 100,000.

This was before the days before program chips and even PC’s. Nowadays the manufacture of components is far more reliable that they are no longer graded. However, the most common problem with all electrical apparatus is overheating.

Overheating in LED Lights

With LED lighting, the design and size of the chip and the heat sink it stands on, drivers also need to have sufficient short protection against under or over voltage. Overheating is a common problem in some LED lighting systems, which can lead to a number of defects including:

  • Reduced brightness.
  • Flickering or intermittent lighting.
  • Bulbs becoming burned out.
  • Smouldering.
  • Burning smells being emitted from the lights.
  • Dimming.
  • Failure of the lights.
